Lokta vs Mambu*
Your core is not the problem. The book after approval is.
You did not type that search because your ledger is wrong. Mambu is a composable banking core spanning lending, deposits, payments and Islamic banking. We do only the part after approval, which Mambu runs as one engine of a horizontal core: servicing, monitoring and early warning, collections and recovery on a live book, with agents proposing and a deterministic core deciding whether a change is inside policy before it posts.
- Agent proposesThe next move for one account, with the reason attached.
- Core decidesPosts it, or refuses it, against the policy version in force.
- Record proves itProposal, decision, policy version and approver, on the account.
Choose Lokta if
Your core does what you bought it for. Your cost and your delinquency now live in collections and recovery, on a book that keeps growing.
Look at both if
Mambu stays the core of record. Lokta operates the book on top of it. Different layers, and neither replaces the other.
Why choose Lokta for the book after approval?
Collections without a second contract
Lokta runs collections as one product on one record: strategy, treatment, execution and evidence, under one contract. Agents test hundreds of collection strategies in the time a risk team ships one and propose the winners. The core decides whether each proposal is inside policy before anything posts, and every promoted strategy is version-pinned and approved by a person before it goes live. When a programme underperforms you change one thing, and the record shows what changed, so the result is auditable, not reported. Mambu runs the lifecycle natively, with borrower contact supplied through collectAI, as its partner page describes.
We are the team behind Apache Fineract, the open-source lending core in production around the world, and we went on to build and scale a commercial lending platform on those foundations. More on the team. We do the book after approval and are not building origination this cycle.
When is Mambu still the right choice?
- You need deposits, current accounts, payments or Islamic banking on the same core as lending. Mambu runs those as named engines, including Mudarabah, Wakalah, Murabaha and Tawarruq with automated profit sharing. We do post-approval loan servicing and none of the rest.
- You are migrating a core at scale and want the vendor to operate it. Mambu names large-scale core migrations on its own materials, runs one evergreen codebase it patches and scales, and publishes named integration partners across its ecosystem. We have nothing at that scale, and we do not operate the platform for you.
- Your buying committee scores analyst coverage and tier-one references. Mambu names N26, ABN AMRO, Raiffeisen Digital Bank and BancoEstado on its own materials, and clears a procurement bar a small company does not.
The agents cover the whole book
The agents are the fabric of the platform. Each one watches the live book, proposes the next move, and hands it to the deterministic core to post or refuse. You get the work done; the core keeps the authority.
- Monitoring and analyticsEvery account watched continuously, not sampled at month-end.
- Early warningThe account about to slip is flagged before it does, with the reason attached.
- Next best action for collectionsFor each account in arrears, the treatment most likely to cure it, ranked and evidence-backed.
- Servicing requests, non-voiceStatements, payoff requests and schedule changes drafted and routed, never posted without the core.
- RecoveryThe late book worked by strategy, not by whoever has capacity that week.
What does one governed action leave behind?
Every platform here can write the sentence. The record is the part that has to be true, so this is the artifact rather than the claim. The products behind it are composed the same governed way in the Loan Product Studio.
What one governed action leaves behind
- Agent proposes
- Hold 1 account from the dialler for 7 days, promise to pay recorded
- Policy bound
- v14, promise-to-pay hold max 7 days, 31-90 days past due
- Core decides
- Inside policy. Hold posted to the account.
- Record
- Proposal, decision, policy version and approver, on the account
Why do lenders look for a Mambu alternative?
Borrower contact sits in a second contract.
The post-disbursal lifecycle is native to Mambu, but the contact layer is composed: Mambu’s own partner page describes automated dunning, multi-channel outreach and escalation supplied through collectAI.
You want agents on the book under a service level.
Mambu shipped an MCP layer in Q2 2026, and its documentation describes it as a limited release, provided as-is for evaluation, without SLA commitments and subject to withdrawal. The centralised AI-governance layer over it is listed as coming soon.
Your servicing automation is chatty, and someone else sets the throttle.
Mambu’s published Fair Use Policy defines rate limits for one environment and two endpoints, and otherwise reserves the right to apply throttling.
How do Lokta and Mambu compare, capability by capability?
Yes and No mean the capability is described, or ruled out, in public material. Via partner means the vendor supplies it through a named partner rather than in the product. Not stated means we could not find it in Mambu’s published material, which is not the same as absent from the product. We do not use that state in our own column: about ourselves the answer is Yes or No. Rows where the answer goes against us are here on purpose.
What is the difference between Lokta and Mambu?
What the platform is for
Ask where collections sits against deposits and payments on their roadmap. On ours it has no competition.
Collections execution
When a collections programme underperforms, the first question is which layer to change. Two vendors means two roadmaps, two support paths and an argument about whose number is right.
Where the guardrail sits
A layer in front of the API decides what an agent may call. A core behind it decides whether what it proposed is inside policy before the ledger moves. The second one is the one you have to answer for.
Deployment and residency
Region selection satisfies a residency obligation. It does not satisfy an obligation that the platform runs on infrastructure your own team operates, and only your regulator can tell you which one you carry.
Regulatory content for the markets Lokta serves
A partnership is a route to a market. Product content is a route to an audit. Ask which one you are buying, and ask us the same question about the markets we have not entered.
What the platform is built to change
An evergreen codebase means you never fall behind and never get ahead. If the behaviour your book needs is not on the roadmap, one model gives you a feature request and the other gives you a module.
Where would we expect an argument?
A governance layer over an API surface and a core that adjudicates the proposal before it posts are different architectures. The second is harder to add to a horizontal core than to build into a narrow one.
What should you ask Mambu in an evaluation?
- Can the platform run on-premises or inside our own VPC? Mambu’s public material describes SaaS in shared or dedicated environments with region selection.
- What is the documented rate limit for every endpoint our servicing automation will call, beyond the two the Fair Use Policy names?
- Is the limited-release MCP layer generally available under SLA yet, and when do the Copilots and Agents that Mambu’s AI page lists as coming soon ship?
- When an agent or automation acts on an account, which layer holds the policy check before the ledger moves, and where is that boundary documented?
Each is a diligence question we could not settle from Mambu’s public material as of August 2026, not a claim about what the product does. Ask them, and ask us the equivalent. Our AI governance questions and the full evaluation questionnaire are the set we would put to any platform, including ours.
In lending, the autonomy you can audit is the only autonomy that scales.
Start a conversation
Lokta is the agentic loan servicing platform: we run the book after approval. If your book is already disbursed and the cost of running it is growing with it, that is the problem we are built for. If it is not, one of the sections above will tell you so faster than a demo will.
Frequently asked questions about Mambu
Is Lokta a Mambu alternative?
For the loan book after approval, yes. For the core, no. Mambu is a horizontal core: lending, deposits, payments and Islamic banking, assembled through APIs with third-party providers around it. Lokta operates the loan book after approval on your core or on ours: servicing, monitoring and early warning, collections and recovery. Replacing a core puts Mambu in a category we are not in. Adding an operating layer over a book you already run is where the comparison is real.
Does Mambu handle collections?
Yes. Mambu covers arrears with configurable grace, interest on arrears, reschedule, refinance and collections reporting natively. Borrower-contact execution, the dunning, outreach and escalation, is described through its collectAI partnership. The distinction to test is where strategy, treatment and contact live: on one record under one contract, or across two vendors, because that is what decides which roadmap you wait on when a collections programme underperforms.
Mambu has governed AI now. What is different about Lokta?
Governed AI is not ours alone. The difference is where the control sits: Mambu’s MCP layer governs what an agent may reach, and ours puts the deterministic core in the decision path. The agent proposes, the core decides whether the proposal is inside policy before the ledger moves, and the record carries proposal, decision, policy version and approver. Mambu’s documentation calls that layer a limited release, provided as-is, without SLA commitments. Ask where it sits on the roadmap.
Can Lokta run on-premises or in our own VPC?
Yes: on-premises, single-tenant cloud, or inside your own virtual private cloud, and Lokta engineers deploy alongside your team. Mambu is delivered on AWS, Google Cloud or Azure with a choice of shared or dedicated environment and a region selected for residency, and Mambu operates the platform. If your regulator or your board requires the platform to run on infrastructure your own team operates, put that question to Mambu directly and ask us to show you a deployment.
We lend in India. Does Lokta carry the regulatory content we are held to?
Yes, as product: co-lending with configurable partner share, partner settlement, daily asset classification, per-partner audit isolation and regulator-facing audit, built for India, wider Asia-Pacific and Africa. We could not find regulatory content for those markets in Mambu’s public material, and absence from public material is not absence from the product. Put the same itemised question to both vendors and compare the two lists against what your regulator will ask for at the next inspection.
Do we have to replace our core to use Lokta?
No. Lokta runs on your core or on ours, so a Mambu lender keeps Mambu as the system of record and adds Lokta as the layer that operates the book: servicing, early warning, collections and recovery. Replacing a core is a migration programme with a timeline to match. Adding the operating layer is a change to how the book is run, and the ledger stays where it is.

Everything on this page about Mambu is drawn from its own public material, linked below and last checked on 20 August 2026. We do not run hands-on testing of other platforms, so a row records what the vendor states rather than what we have verified in a deployment, and where the material does not settle a question the row says so instead of treating silence as absence. Capabilities change and deployments differ: confirm the current position, and your own configuration, with the vendor.
