About Lokta

The team behind Apache Fineract, now building Lokta.

Before you hand a live book to software, it is fair to ask who built the last one. Lokta is the agentic loan servicing platform, and it is what we'd build if we started today.

Our track record

We built the rails the industry runs on.

  • $500B+Cumulative loan principal
  • 65M+Borrowers reached
  • 70Countries

These totals belong to the Mifos and Apache Fineract ecosystem our team helped build, and not to Lokta's own book. The principal figure is the top of a modelled range: the ecosystem keeps no central ledger, so no one can count it exactly. How the figure is derived

Why we started over

A decade in, we knew exactly what we'd rebuild.

A decade across Fineract showed us where lenders bleed after approval: credit policy that goes stale the day it ships, collections that stay reactive, ops cost that climbs with the book.

It also showed us what could not be patched. The constraint was in the architecture: batch-refreshed state, per-module data models, and integrations bolted on at the edge. Agents need consistent, event-driven canonical state to act on, and no amount of AI bolted onto batch endpoints inherits anything but the inconsistency underneath.

So Lokta is what we'd build if we started today. Agent-native from the ground up, on a deterministic core where the math is something the AI never gets to guess at.

Ashok Auty on what we learned building Fineract, and why we started over

What we believe

The book that learns is worth more than the book that doesn't.

We are building toward credit that reaches more people and businesses on terms worth trusting, carried by a loan book that sharpens as it lends. The vision, the mission, and what we're building toward by 2030 sit on one page.

How we engage

Founder-led. A small cohort, deeply engaged.

We work with a small number of lenders and lending partners at a time, as co-design partners, not a vendor SaaS sign-up. If you carry a book and you want it to learn, start there.

  • Direct founder access throughout the engagement
  • Integration sequence shaped by your priorities
  • A drift audit first: bring one product and see where our numbers and yours disagree, before anything moves
  • An open module surface your engineers extend in-tree

Q&A

Questions about the team and the company

Who we are, what we build, and how we work with lenders.

  • Who builds Lokta?

Lokta is built by the team behind Apache Fineract, the open-source lending core used by lenders in 70 countries. Ashok Auty, co-founder, is a co-creator of Mifos X and Apache Fineract with 15+ years building lending systems. Chandramouli, co-founder and CEO, spent 23 years in technology, go-to-market and consulting, including 4+ years building machine learning and GenAI features. Shreyank Byadagi, Principal Engineer, has 10+ years in fintech backend engineering.

  • Is Lokta the same thing as Apache Fineract?

No. Apache Fineract is an independent Apache Software Foundation project, and Lokta is a separate company. The connection is people: Lokta’s founding team helped create and scale Fineract, and Lokta is a new codebase built agent-native from the ground up rather than a fork or a distribution of Fineract.

  • What does Lokta actually do?

Lokta is the agentic loan servicing platform. It runs the live loan book after approval: servicing, monitoring and early warning, collections, and recovery. The AI proposes an action, the lender’s deterministic core decides whether it is allowed, and every change lands on the record.

  • Does Lokta do loan origination or underwriting?

Not in this cycle. For the next 12-18 months the build focus is post-approval only, so underwriting, credit decisioning and origination-time pricing are out of scope. The Loan Origination System page on this site is labelled as roadmap for that reason.

  • How does Lokta work with lenders today?

Founder-led, with a small number of lenders and lending partners at a time as co-design partners rather than a self-serve SaaS sign-up. Engagements start with a drift audit: you bring one product, and we show you where our numbers and yours disagree before anything moves.

  • Where is Lokta based, and who does it serve?

Lokta serves fintech lenders, NBFCs, banks and lending service providers, with the deepest regulatory work done for India and the RBI. The platform itself is not India-specific, and the architecture is the same wherever the book runs.

Founder-led adoption

Adopt the agentic loan servicing platform.

Lokta is built for enterprise deployment, VPC or single-tenant cloud, with an audit trail in every state change. We work with a select group of institutions through a founder-led model: deep adoption, deliberate scope, a delivery window the team commits to in writing.
