Software evaluation guide

Free loan software downloads: start at the official source

Use the project’s release page to identify what you are getting: source code, a server package or a staff interface. The links below lead to the maintainers’ sites; no signup with Lokta is needed.

Choose the right project and package

Apache Fineract releases

The official site lists source and binary distributions with signature and SHA-512 verification files. Select a supported release there, then follow its documentation. The core needs an operating environment and a way for your staff or applications to use its APIs.

Mifos X Web App

This is the web-interface project used with a Fineract backend. Start with its repository instructions and the compatibility requirements for both parts. Downloading the interface alone does not supply a separate lending core.

Frappe Lending source

The lending application builds on Frappe Framework and ERPNext. Read the project’s setup guidance, dependencies and licence before choosing a release. Budget for the complete application environment.

Licence and version record

Save the release or commit identifier, its licence files and your configuration notes together. Fineract, the Mifos web interface and Frappe Lending carry different licence texts. Review the exact packages and dependencies your organisation will use.

Verify the downloaded files

Follow the project’s verification instructions for the files you selected. Apache publishes a release-verification guide explaining checksums and signatures. A checksum comparison checks file integrity; signature verification adds a check against the signing key, whose authenticity you must also establish.

  1. Record the official release URL and version. Prefer a release identified by the project as supported over an unrelated mirror or an old tutorial’s attachment.
  2. Verify the provided checksums and signatures using the maintainer’s instructions. Resolve a failed verification before proceeding.
  3. Read the release notes and prerequisites. Select compatible database, runtime, application and interface versions.
  4. Create an isolated evaluation environment with unique credentials and synthetic loan data. Keep it separate from production services and borrower communications.

These checks help confirm the file’s integrity and origin when you have verified the signing key. You still need to test the loan calculations and your configuration against your operating requirements.

Finish the trial with evidence your team can use

Assign one technical owner and one loan-operations reviewer. Configure a representative product, then trace scheduled repayment, a partial payment, a reversal and account closure. Compare balances and accounting entries with calculations your team has independently checked.

Rebuild the environment from your saved version and configuration notes. Restore a backup into a second test environment and export an account with its transaction history. Record failures and unresolved responsibilities as well as the successful cases.

At the end of the trial, your team should be able to rebuild the setup and explain which tests passed. Estimate the remaining work and its cost before deciding whether to continue in-house or bring in a provider.

Lokta, the agentic loan servicing platform, is a commercial option for the live book after approval. Its available capabilities are Loan Management, AI Loan Servicing and RBI Model Risk Management. Loan Origination remains on the roadmap; it is not available now. An open-source download from this guide is not a Lokta distribution or an endorsement by the named projects.

Lokta maintains this directory from the linked project documentation. We have not installed or security-tested these packages for this guide.

Q&A

Questions before downloading loan software

Official sources, package types and preparing an evaluation environment.

  • Where can I download open-source loan software?

Start at the project’s own release page or repository. This guide links to Apache Fineract, the Mifos X Web App and Frappe Lending. The links take you to those projects; Lokta does not host or redistribute their installers.

  • Is a source-code ZIP the same as an installer?

No. Source archives may require a build, a runtime, a database and configuration. A container can package more of that environment, but its data storage, access settings and maintenance still need to be configured. Follow the instructions for the selected release.

  • Can we use a public demo with actual borrower records?

Use synthetic records for a public demo or a first local evaluation. Move to approved data only after your team has established access, retention, security and operating controls for the environment.

  • Does this page provide a free Lokta download?

No Lokta software package is offered here. These are external open-source project links and evaluation steps. To assess Lokta’s commercial Loan Management scope, discuss the deployment and terms with the team.

Founder-led adoption

Adopt the agentic loan servicing platform.

Lokta is built for enterprise deployment, VPC or single-tenant cloud, with an audit trail in every state change. We work with a select group of institutions through a founder-led model: deep adoption, deliberate scope, a delivery window the team commits to in writing.
